A lot of people felt that Juan Manuel Marquez should have won today’s fight against Manny Pacquiao. He was seen landing punches left and right and being able to anticipate Pacquiao’s move that gave the Pinoy champ a hard time on the ring.

Pacquaio landed 30% of his punches (176 out of 578), Marquez 32% (138 out of 436). Statistically, this tells us two things – that Pacquiao had more punch than Marquez but quality wise, the Mexican dynamite outdid his opponent. The judges lauded Pacman for his aggressive behavior during the fight, but they can’t dispute that Marquez was better at counter-punches too.

Water bottles flew into the ring – one reaching Pacman when he was pronounced winner. Who can blame the audience’s rowdy reaction, like a bunch of abrasives about to set the entire Las Vegas on fire? Even Filipinos believed that this should have been Marquez’s game.

Were you able to get your free pass to the Nike-sponsored tour of Lakers superstar, Kobe Bryant? After one sweltering and sleepless weekend in Boni High Street, my brother did. Thousands of fans who camped in there the day before stayed the following morning waiting in lines under the trees, beside commercial collection agency offices, restaurants, bars and whatnot. July 13 was the date set with Kobe in Araneta Coliseum.

As usual, he didn’t disappoint. It was like a pyrotechnics show – he was exploding!

That was an amazing fight Manny Pacquiao put up against Antonio Margarito today in front of the roaring crowd in Dallas Cowboys Stadium, and his numerous fans back home. From where I was (in a resto), I was given a home theater seating and a pizza.

Now, this particular game gave Pacquiao his 8th world title and Margarito cuts under those beautiful but swollen eyes. Margarito became a bouncy bobblehead each time he received those big punches. Not just a dozen but perhaps over a hundred of them in different combinations left and right. I sympathized with him, but I remember the bad joke he and his team made on Coach Freddie Roach’s Parkinson’s disease, and those trash talks. Serves him right. Margarito was lucky his eyes did not pop out of their sockets because Pacquiao showed mercy.

But he never seem to get tired of firing his anti-Pacquiao tirades. Up to this day, since the so-called fight-of-the-decade match with Manny Pacquiao folded last year, Mayweather Jr. continued to verbally attack the Filipino boxing champ. In his recent video, he called Pacquiao a “midget” and made nasty remarks on his race and culture – you know serving rice and cook Pacquiao with cats or dogs.

But hey Floyd Jr., do you know what Filipinos call guys who talk like their mothers? Bakla. Oh, let me translate. Fag. Go find your balls and be a man.

Whenever he wins, every Filipino also shares the victory.

Boxing Writers Association of America honored Manny Pacquiao as “Fighter of the Year”. This was the third time Pacman receives the award. His coach/trainer Freddie Roach was the “Trainer of the Year”. Pacquaio was also hailed as “Fighter of the Decade”.

Obviously, we know why Pacquiao won again this year. Last year, he had put British boxer Ricky Hatton to sleep and beat Puerto Rican fighter Miguel Cotto on the 12th round. A few months ago, he played hide and seek with Joshua Clottey in the most boring fight ever. (I swear I fell asleep in the middle of watching it in CPK. I should have watched weight loss success stories being aired on those home TV shopping channels instead.)

Congratulations, Pacman. Seal that fight deal with Mayweather and beat him to pulp.

I saw this one while in between browsing Canadian immigration websites (hint) and assembling an office furniture. The video game “Pacman” was given a new form, and it took its latest inspiration from the Philippine boxing champ, Manny Pacquiao, and the other boxers who went down with their eyes swollen. This was designed by a guy named Ralph Reigner Esquivias. I find this really nice and funny. Maybe Nike should do a shirt on this.

Good for the health.

The design has not been updated so far, with the addition of Joshua Clottey of Ghana who recently boxed with Manny in a turtle-like manner.

There are usually two things every boxing afficionado would love to see during a Pacquiao event – the person who gets to sing the national anthem and the boxers of the main event.

Journey’s Arnel Pineda certainly did not disappoint. He was an extremely talented guy whose pitch soared up to the rooftop of the Dallas Cowboys Stadium. But come main event, I zonked out.

I fell asleep watching Pacquiao boxed an unresponsive Clottey. But it’s okay. It was free (perks of the job). If I paid a whopping P800 ticket to see Clottey act like a wall of Jericho, I would have punched him myself. It would be tad easier, like popping an adult acne to oblivion.

Clottey decided to be Pacquiao’s punching bag. Most of the time he was behind his boxing gloves shielding himself from those fiery combinations. And that obviously was a no-brainer.

It was rather an easy task than to get head-to-head with the pound-for-pound king. He had no title to lose, not even a reputation to rescue. If he went down on the floor, it’s still a win-win situation for him. He takes home a pricey cut from their boxing and PPV shares. So he shielded himself from those punches all the 12 rounds in order to come of it alive and be able to enjoy the booty.

That’s what exactly happened today. On the bad side, Clottey also earned the ire of millions of viewers who felt robbed watching a boring fight.

Manny Pacquiao sure did enjoy himself there with Jimmy Kimmel’s band and an audience chanting his name. It was fun to watch him belt out an old George Benson song, “Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You”, and you probably wondered if it was meant for Jinkee. Or Krista. But who cares? Everyone enjoyed watching Pacquiao sing all smiles just 9 days more before he enters the ring with Joshua Clottey.

But nothing beats the enthusiasm of 90 million Filipinos throwing their support to the reigning pound-for-pound king. Pacquiao’s scheduled fights are sacred days to most Filipinos. The March 14 title bout is going to be quiet and crime-free because everyone’s glued to their television sets. Everyone takes a break from their chores, chasing after a very important life insurance lead, or even forgo breathing for the meantime. Even the most vile takes a day-off from spreading terror to see Pacquiao beat another opponent. So far, no one has ever done that here. Not even the Pope.

Now you know.

No particular details on the venue yet. But it seems that they are choosing between MGM in Las Vegas and Dallas Cowboys in Texas. Both have also agreed to a 50-50 split on the huge income expected from this match.

Of course, Mayweather Sr. and their promoter, dela Hoya’s Golden Boy, have been looking forward to beating the crap out of Pacman. It could be out of fear and need to exact vengeance over an opponent who has been beating down Mexicans and Puerto Ricans in the last two years or so. Lil Floyd’s dad, who also happens to be his own trainer too, was confident that his son will prevail over this fight: “Pacquiao could never beat something that came out of me”. By this time, the old Mayweather should realize that he has just pitted himself up against an entire nation of 80M plus Pinoys who want his head now on a plate.

Three more months to go before the mega fight hits the screens, giving me more time also to check around for rackmount lcd.. At stake is the WBO title. Who will take it home?

It was simply awesome. Such greatness brought the Philippines back to the map again on a very positive light. Not to mention that every Pacquiao fight cleanses cities of crime, filth and traffic. People flocked down to public viewing venues, stayed glued to their TV sets and searched for every free telecast online. Sooner or later, Pacquiao vs Cotto will be in bluray discs. Boxing fans you go watch out for it and applaud Cotto for his spirit no matter how bloody it turned out to be for him.
