I am typically a laidback person who doesn’t like complications, frills and thrills, and yeah, dragging myself to some party venue to socialize. It is not that I am being anti-social. I just dislike crowded places.

But since Christmas is a season of endless parties, I had to exercise my ability to socialize, albeit lazy to the bone to dress up. I was just glad that this year’s company party theme was “gossip girl” and not what I feared – United Nations (okay) or getting into some french maid outfits to make a statement. The only challenge being a “gossip girl” was finding the right clothes for my desperate-housewives age.

Anyway, I had a series of firsts in this year’s party:

- went to David’s Salon for hair and make-up
- wore a dress to a party
- skipped dinner in order to fit into the dress (LOL)
- went home without a date (a.k.a. sundo)
- ate chicken inasal in a party
- got nothing from the raffle (as in zilch)

What’s yours?

(Okay, that sounds too much already.)

The Christmas lights came quite late this season. Last year, the gate was already glittering by first week of November giving everyone an early Christmas vibe. For some reason, the decor committee were delayed this year.

Anyway, better late than never. Still they did a fantastic job having the entire stretch of the highway lighted with multi-color lanterns that gave a fantasy-like look from a distance. I caught some photos of it after I visited Red from the vet’s hospital, beside a new clinic, which people say is managed by anaustin allergist. If you are from this area, you’d agree with me that everything in this corner has turned magical at night, and will remain that way for the next 30 days.

The family was at Enchanted Kingdom last Halloween, to celebrate not the dead but the 4-day weekend. I haven’t been to the theme park for the last 6 years. So far, the management has not wrote off their list those rides I marked “scary” before – Anchors Away where I almost fainted and the Log Jam that sent my innards flying on air.

My brothers and niece were just laughing at me as I refused to get into those rides again. So I ended up on the ferris wheel. I have already lost that daredevil attitude. I guess worrying about exploding eardrums and breaking a bone are signs of growing old. So I ended up the trip’s photographer trying to get a shot of family members who went crazy over the Space Shuttle ride from those stainless steel barrels at the corner of the mega structure.

Nevertheless, that was fun.

We have just started a weekly Kris Kringle in the office. And the challenge this week is to find items under $20 and should be something unusual that can be used by both male and female members this Christmas. I found a metal stocking holder, which I think is very useful for those who love Christmas stockings but don’t have a fireplace or a vacant area for such things at home. The metal holder can display up to 6 stockings, and can be placed at a corner. Nice!

I also found this spare change jar while looking for birthday gifts for dads. My dad, who would have been 82 next month, would certainly loved this. He specifically liked novelty items, aside from the usual handkerchiefs, books, card holders and socks that he usually received as birthday slash Christmas gifts. But then, with him no longer around, I would be buying one as a holiday present to my male friends who are now dads.

Canon Pixma printer -for my proposals, resumes and other matters
2. Cuttlebug – for the paper card business next year
3. A pair of Levi’s jeans
4. Bed frame – for my small room in the metro. (I know, log beds are nice.)
5. Dress
6. A pair of pumps to go with the dress
7. And yes, gifts for the family and inaanaks who are still within my radar.

Now I need to get down to the business and work.

Just got off a dinner party at EDSA Shangrila Plaza Hotel. It was an intimate dinner treat courtesy of Filscap (Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) who has been in the business of upholding the rights of Filipino talents. I think everyone should really has to promote and support original Pilipino music.

It was great meeting legendary musician and singer and Filscap president Noel Cabangon (we had our photos taken with him), and had one hearty dinner (I’m still bit full as of this hour). We also received a nice tote bag giveaway from Filscap made by Team Manila Lifestyle which actually showcased Pinoy creativity. I don’t have a camera right now, but this is how it looks like. I thought it was nice and cool.

The party days have just started, so I’d be expecting more of this kind from birthday invitations, company parties, to dinner dates. But for know, I need to catch some sleep.

Looks like everyone will be busy getting married this coming holiday season. (No scorn intended. Lol.)

I am most likely to attend two, and that means another dress. And I wonder why most brides like powder blue, green, pink and even yellow. I honestly think they’re too loud or too girly. Wedding is supposed to be treated solemn, a formal occasion. If I only have my way, I would have chosen plum and champagne colors. Okay, that’s me.

Since I am not the type who would be wearing bridesmaid gowns, I am fine with knee-length dresses which I can use in other formal events. I won’t be splurging on designer gowns which you only get to use once in a blue moon. I will be scouting for one today at Landmark – the place where I brought my niece during a prom dress sale and found a gem, making her the second star of the night. (I swear, the counting was rigged. Haha.)

Later, folks.

I heard the very first Christmas song for the year in a fast food outlet last September 1st. Then yesterday at the supermarket. Caught the first glimpse of parol (Christmas lantern) last week when we drove along Gilmore Street. All of these in the middle of a dengue outbreak, thousands of nurses landing on Technical Recruiting Jobs, the crisis in the Middle East and the president’s love life (LOL).

Photo from inquirer.net

It may appear mind-boggling about us wanting to get on the holiday cheer this early and quick, but we know the reason behind this. Unconsciously, we crave for the special feeling brought about by the festivity – all the giving, loving, feasts and yeah, spending. Above all, the message of the holidays brings us hope.

Most of my friends happen to be either not the marrying type, or simply late-bloomers who would decide to tie the knot with someone only after having lived a full life.

I guess that explains the dearth of playing the bridesmaid. In fact, I have only been bridesmaid to three of my friends in my more than three decades of earthly life. In average, that’s one every 10 years.

But, before the year ends, one of my closest friends will get married to a guy she extremely likes. And while I have been so opinionated, often questioning her choice of mate, at the end of the day it would still be her decision, her life. My role as a friend is to respect that. And find a cocktail dress and choose from a variety of pink rose bouquets to match it. In fact, I know now what to wear exactly on that day: One shoulder, cocktail length dress in organdy has matching belt at natural waist. Self trimmed hem and cascade ruffle at side front skirt.

Nice. I just need to work on trimming and toning down my arms. And everything else would be perfect. Yay.
