The bad thing about this is I couldn’t find an official trailer online that could point me to what Iron Man 2 can offer. Not even spoilers. If you want to burn fat sitting, this is the way to go. Because everything about Iron Man 2 is locked inside the Marvel chest. But Robert Downey Jr has been dropping hints on what his character does this time around and the story angle of this movie after the first installment ended in a shocking revelation that Tony Starks is Iron Man. There’s an issue with his father and alcoholism, an energy crisis and breakthroughs in the arc reactor; new villains like Whiplash, Justin Hammer as the shrewd businessman and wannabe Tony Starks and the Black Widow to deal with; Pepper Potts, Col. Rhodes as War Machine and Stark’s involvement with Nick Fury’s SHIELD. Now go paint the picture and see you in 2010.

Things to do when the earth shakes

If there’s one piece of news that act like an appetite suppressant on a sunny Monday morning, this is it. The Big One is not here yet but here’s something to keep you on your toes. After all, I might be doing you a huge favor.
If you’re indoors:
- Stay inside
- Duck and take cover under a piece of heavy furniture or stand against an inside wall.
- Wait for the shaking to stop before you exit
- Stay away from doors and windows. It may either slam at you or suffer injuries when glasses break.
- Don’t take the elevator. If you’re outside the house or building:
- Stay away from buildings, trees and power lines. Go to an open spot.
- Drop to the ground. If inside the car:
- Drive to the nearest clear space
- Turn on emergency flashers on and slow to a stop. Don’t park over or under the bridge, nor beside any infrastructure that might fall on you.
- Beware of falling debris and loose live wires.
- Turn off the ignition and set the parking brake.
- Stay inside the car until the shaking stops.
Are we ready for the Big One?

While it is true that the Bible spoke of the end-time scenarios as precursors to the Second Coming, we can’t remain sitting ducks. Preparation is needed as we are being drawn one day closer to the Big One. And what I mean by the Big One is that giant fault line sleeping under us that might wake up soon after hundreds of years of dormancy.
Studies were conducted on the Marikina Valley Fault Line – that earthquake prone belt on which we, Metro Manila lurkers, sit on. The fault extends from San Mateo, Rizal all the way down to Taguig down south, carrying with it the weight of these cities: Marikina, Pasig, Makati, Paranaque and Taguig. The last known earthquake that shook us from our sleep was the 1990 Cabanatuan earthquake, burying hundreds of people inside the rubbles of Hyatt Hotel in Baguio. A quake of that magnitude zeroing on Metro Manila would prove to be more disastrous. Our cities are fully-loaded.
California has been preparing for the next move of San Andreas fault for the past decades. They have been conducting statewide drills, the last one being two days ago involving millions. While our local building administrators have been conducting earthquake drills amid discussions of local officials and international experts on this spanning 50 years or more, we still doubt this government’s preparations and readiness. The flooding alone that took 5lbs. off my current weight without weight loss pills
remains unsolved. Our city plans that took years of study remain as they were – plans. Or if not, we alter them to suit our short-range vision for our cities while most of our people leave the countryside for lack of livelihood opportunities and dwell in those shanties beside every river. Then we wonder why city mayors and government agencies are getting lawsuits these days for civil and property damages. And everyone has been damning the dam.
The ugly truth is our own survival largely depends on us individuals. We can start planning for our own emergency drills. It can’t wait.
