Cold Manila

An electric blanket

An electric blanket

A new record was released by PAGASA last week indicating that Manila’s temperature reached this year’s all-time low at 18.1 degrees Celcius. It happened last Thursday, January 15, but still a few notch higher than freezing Baguio. I believe they have gone frosty up there at 7 degrees Celcius.

Manila is experiencing London’s summer. Britons wear shorts, sleeveless shirts, sunglasses and rubber shoes while Pinoys go about town in their colorful sweaters and jackets. We do love the cold and the fashion that comes with heavy clothing. We also have ready-made antidotes: coffee, coffee and more coffee. And if you’re currently wrestling with your office budgets, that alone could make you sweat without getting physical.

Expect more of the wintry bite in the coming days as every place in the northern hemisphere has gone arctic cold. If you’re up there, buy yourself an electric blanket. Humans don’t necessarily make warm companions. (Hmn. Someone told me that before.)
