What to do in Cebu: Call a friend

My friend, Mayan, and I took an early 7am flight to Cebu last Saturday via Philippine Airlines. The trip has been book more than a month earlier through a PALakbayan promo. It cost us around P8,000 per head but it already includes round-trip fare and a four-day stay in Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort where we were treated like princesses. One can always find a best buy at www.bestbuy.com but it is not often you stumble upon good deals. So plan your trips ahead.

We arrived at Mactan International Airport at almost half past eight where the resort car was already waiting for us. From the airport, it took us 15 minutes to reach Maribago Blue Water Beach Resort. We checked in at around 9am. While waiting for our room to be fixed, we went to the business center where they offer free internet access.

I saw my Cebuana friend, Cat, online at Yahoo Messenger and surprised her with the news that I was in town with a friend. We were lucky to have her fit us in her already busy weekend schedule. We had dinner that same day which ended up on a road trip with her cousin to Mountain View in Cebu City, gate-crashing their evening picnic party and sampling a glass of Amarula.

House hunting in Binangonan, Rizal

We went on an almost 20-kilometer drive from Cainta to Binangonan, Rizal to check on this house my brother found on Ebay. It was early Saturday morning and my eyes were still droopy from lack of sleep.

It never crossed my mind that you could actually sell, and buy, houses on Ebay. My brother saw the all-must-go ad last week and inquired over the phone. Both of my brothers set out immediately to meet with the owners braving the weekday traffic from Pasig to the remote part of Rizal. It turned out that the owners, an old couple, would soon migrate to New Zealand where their children are waiting for them. I have cousins in Maryland who did the same thing, too. (By the way, if you’re planning to relocate somewhere in the East Coast, prepare Boston resumes and land on a job you love the most.)

My brothers were excited about the new find that we all went to see the place and decide whether we all agree on owning it or not. It’s a two-storey house with garage, four rooms and a basement. Plus a four-year-old car. And the best thing about it is we’re inside a village that sits on a quiet hill dotted by trees overlooking Laguna Bay.

I have never felt so relaxed; breathing fresh air and enjoying the sight of rugged green mountains. It so inspires creativity I think I could start writing a book there. I hope this is already it.

MARCOMMASIA opens on September 24

I’m in the middle of finding my missing API key for my resto blog. It’s pretty confusing when you’ve got BLOGS and a number of API keys registered under different names sleeping somewhere in 5 different email accounts. How do I manage it? I don’t know. As long as no one touches my online stuff, I know where to find them. Today happens to be a special case.

Anyway, while I’m on it, Tita Susie forwarded me the latest update on MARCOMMASIA and I already spread it to a number of people on my address book. The big event opens on September 24th until 26th at the World Trade Center. If you guys have time, please drop by. It’s free admission. Please bring a paying friend for the conference.
