Watching The Iron Man

There were around 4 cinemas in SM Megamall that offer Iron Man. I thought I would miss a seat knowing it’s the last day of the sale weekend. People were basically everywhere with their kids buying school bags. They were most likely to have that detour from bookstore to the cinema. So I reserved a seat on the balcony. (Mind you, I really find this balcony-orchestra thing a major economic class distinction. It’s so Pinoy.)

When I entered the theatre, the place was nearly empty with people and trailers of upcoming movies were on screen. Most of the viewers who entered were adults. Apparently, kids didn’t like Iron Man at all.

While waiting for Iron Man, I watched a number of movie trailers from Prince Caspian (yey!) to Wanted (James McAvoy dropped his English accent to be an assasin). Among the spectacular movies this summer (not our summer, but the June to September summer in the West), I find the Speed Racer too fancy, almost unreal. This new movie of the Wachowski brothers looked a Pixar movie. Race cars with their fancy car spoilers and stunts on colorful 3D race tracks seemed cartooney. I actually had a headache watching Speed Racer’s trailer.

Now, did I love Iron Man movie? Yes, I did. The bill fit Robert Downey Jr well. In fact, he IS Tony Stark and no one else could play that role like he did. Downey will go down the cinematic history as The Iron Man, no longer as Hollywood’s bad guy.
