I have always been a big fan of feel-good movies from Disney-animated films, Meg Ryan-Tom Hanks titles, Drew Barrymore’s happy-ever-afters to, lately, Anne Hathaway movies. I like colorful happy endings after overcoming insurmountable odds and twists – ugly stepsisters, wicked stepmothers, bald bearded magicians, mean girls, players, the big bad boss…the long list goes on. It is usually in the middle of hustle and bustle atmosphere of New York City most writers set their backdrops for romantic films.
The fascinating storyline of another Disney movie hit “Enchanted” came to my attention after watching the 2008 Oscar Awards earlier this year. Enchanted received three Oscar nominations, all under the Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures for songs “Happy Working Song”, “That’s How You Know” and “So Close”. I didn’t fully quite get it until I saw the film last month, and yesterday. The sultry melody and lyrics of “So Close” has so filled my head these past couple of weeks. I don’t dance but one day I think I could – with a suitable dance partner *wink*
And it does help to have Grey’s Anatomy lead star Patrick Dempsey in the cast as Robert Philip, a New York-based divorce attorney, and Amy Adams as Giselle, the proponent of true love’s kiss. A manhole in the middle of Time Square, New York can never be more than perfect place to fall in love and start a modern fairytale.
