Travel Light Has Been Nominated

2008

…not for Oscars.

US-based Pinoy blogger, The Composed Gentleman, created a poll rank survey of Filipino blogs in 2006. Every week, he would select 10 Filipino websites and allow visitors to his site to vote who they think should be awarded the Filipino Blog of the Week. For week 101, Travel Light has been nominated and to this I would like to say thank you for the recognition.

Here’s a suggestion – how about organizing a bloggers night out or a dinner party or something like it?

Fellow Kuro Mod and blogger, Mitch, has been very kind in helping me find gold mines in the blogosphere. I just want you to know that I have earned my first $200 after two months of getting the E-ON activated and already went shopping yesterday. Ha ha.

To those who want to know what it takes to be a pro-blogger, go to writer Connie Luayon. She knows the way and the exact tools to use.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

What the buzz is all about

2008
03.28

Trendy Pinoy is my latest attempt to go niche blogging. I have been blogging since 2000 via Livejournal, have closed and opened blog accounts, with no fixed idea on which particular subject to concentrate in. For years, I have been blogging about my life. If I have to market my life in a sardine can, it won’t sell. If you seek monetizing your blogs like me, topics like that no longer sell like Boy Bawang these days unless you’re as controversial as Britney Spears and have been a known expert in screwing up your life in public.

Opening Portrait House taught me a lot of things about the blogosphere. Not only I learned a whole lot about WP as a blogging platform, the experience allowed me to see where the blogging world is headed to. Bloggers have moved from the usual dear diary entries to writing about collective interests that cater to certain groups of people. It is old and fresh information that most people seek online from the US elections, the rice shortage in the Philippines, melting down of the Antarctic, the thriving kidney black market to something as trivial as the walk in tub. (Have you came across that one? I just did.)

Trendy Pinoy will concentrate on new things that catches the interest of any ordinary Filipino. Topics will cover latest trends in fashion, careers, internet technology, food, movies, business and a dozen more.

Why Tagaytay

2008
03.27

Cold, lush and green.

Tagaytay is probably the best next thing after Baguio. Its cool temperature during summer and proximity at about 60 kms south of Manila attracts more visitors escaping the intense heat in high urban cities. The place does not only offer picturesque view of the world-famous Taal Volcano. There is a lot more to the place than you can imagine.

People’s Park has always been a favorite group hang-out. Entrance fee is at P25 per head. Inside the park are picnic groves where you can have barbecue parties. These facilities are for rent for as low as P150 per head. Somewhere near the Picnic Grove is an area where you can fly kites and take your camping gear for an overnight stay. Visitors may also stroll along the Eco-Trail.

For those who seek adventure, a trek to Taal Volcano’s peak is highly recommended. Taal is an active volcano located in Taal Lake and within it is another lake called Crater Lake. Head down to Talisay and take the 15-minute boat ride that would take you to the foot of the volcano. You can either go hiking or have horseback riding to reach the top.

Restaurants abound in this area. Gastronomical finds range from typical Filipino menu of Leslie and Josephine Restaurant, fast food joints, fruit stands along the highway, intercontinental cuisine of Antonio’s to organic garden specialties of Gourmet’s Café. For super delicious specialty pies and tarts, we remain loyal to Rowena’s.

Go To Anilao

2008
03.25

It was my first time to visit Anilao in Batangas, one of the country’s famous diving sites. Since mom’s friend, Ate Mary, was going to attend her scuba-diving class, she invited me to come with her in this all-expense paid 2-day getaway. At the same time, it was a treat to celebrate my new-found job and get relaxed. I was also allowed to tag along a friend to accompany me while she’s out taking her lessons somewhere in the deep. So I plucked Nitay out of her usual Saturday Bible study schedule.

A good morning view of Anilao.

We left Manila as early as 6AM. With Ate Mary on the steering wheel and Scubaworld.com’s dive master Roger keeping her awake, we arrived in Outrigger Resort in less than three hours considering the entire length of SLEX being constructed. If you haven’t been through hell, I suggest you take SLEX on a Friday.

The air was crisp and everything else around the resort was calm and peaceful. Outrigger Resort was perched below the rocky hills of Mabini, Batangas. It was a typical diver’s zone – scuba gear rental booths, boatmen waiting, and divers checking their equipment, wind and water conditions. I was told that a complete diver’s equipment would cost around P50,000. Expenses paid for diving courses and trips to diving sites are excluded. Divers even have to undergo certification. This is quite an expensive and serious hobby.

Create Your Own Logo In Minutes

2008
03.24

You don’t have to be a sophisticated graphic design wiz to come up with your own logo. Whether you’re starting out as an entrepreneur or basically as someone who happens to have a need for one, there’s an online facility that could help you design your own logo in a matter of minutes.

This is not just your ordinary instant logo-maker that often times produces mediocre results that you’d rather hide under the rug. As they say, talk is cheap. So here’s the proof:

card

Out of curiosity, I created my own logo design and business card in about ten minutes using the site’s design facility. Since I have always been interested in doing events, I thought about designing my own logo that would clearly convey the type of business I am into. I want something candid and elegant but at the same time serious and responsible. I think I have chosen well.

There are 6 steps to undertake, including business card layout. Each step gives you options – from your industry theme, chosen name, font type, colors to various layout selections. You can manipulate your own layout and make the entire look tech savvy, serious and candid, or whichever that suits you. It is ultra flexible and easy to use as there are no mathematical algorithms or any alien instructions involved. All you need is an internet connection and a dose of imagination.
