Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain

Seven years after Diana’s death, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II opened Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain to the public in July 2004. The memorial fountain is a symbolic tribute to the late princess.

Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain can be found at the southernmost part of Hyde Park, the eastern side The Serpentine River. In fact, we had difficulties locating the memorial fountain. We relied heavily on signposts pointing to many directions and asked help from people walking by. We shared the same initial reaction others had upon reaching Diana’s memorial fountain — huh? Eto na ‘yun? It was but a tiny dot inside a huge park. They should have added a statue of the princess or something, instead of insignificant Diana posters at the gates enumerating these reminders:

The Memorial has a path suitable for wheelchairs.
The area is supervised when open.
Please feel free to sit on the edge of the Memorial and refresh your feet.
We ask visitors not to walk on the Memorial.
Dogs are not permitted into the area, except for registered assistance dogs.
The area may be closed off during extremely cold or severe weather conditions.

If anyone wants to reach this most talked about (and disappointing) site, ride the bus to Kensington High Street if you’re coming from the Green Park or Hyde Park Corner. Take the Exhibition Road just before you reach the corner of Kensington Park. This is the shortest possible route one could take as there are no buses crossing The Serpentine Bridge. But if you’re driving, go straight to Hyde Park’s parking lot at the eastern side of The Serpentine Bridge. Diana Memorial Fountain is just a few steps away.
